What to pack?

Here are a few items that are nice to bring along. Also listed are some things that are nice to bring if you have the extra space.

Necessary items to bring (in my opinion :)

1) Your pigs (if you're showing)

2) a carrying cage

You can use a cardboard box, but they're not very safe or sturdy for long amounts of time. Cat carriers work well, but the best kind are the wire-sided top-opening carrying cage - safe, sturdy, and easy to get the pig in/out of.

3) Water bottle

For you ( a human water bottle) and some for your pig. We provide a slice of apple for their water source if it's only a day show, or we syringe gatorade water to them throughout the day.

4) Money

For raffle tickets, food, entry fees, or that pig for sale that you gotta have. Sometimes there are cages for sale at shows as well.

5) Grooming kit

Unless you've already groomed your pig completely at home, you should always bring at least a mini grooming kit for touch-ups, especially if you are showing longhaired cavies.

6) Food

Snacks for you and your pig (s). Apple is a good choice for before your pig gets judged, as it doesn't leave a colored stain around the mouth like carrots do and lettuce can.

7) Mini First-aid kit

You can include syringes, gatorade or pedialyte, vitamin C, calcium (powder or liquid), and other things that you might need on hand.

8) Towel(s)

It's nice to hold a pig on a towel, and you can cover their cage with it to keep them calmer, too.

7) Chair(s)

Since shows can be very long, a chair is a must. Otherwise you will have very, very tired legs and feet when you get home.

8) Carpet sample(s)

Great for grooming your piggy on. They also have fancy carpeted round turn-tables so you can turn your pig around on them to reach a different spot. My sister got one of those, they're pretty neat. Some of our pigs didn't like it because it moved.

9) Cell phone

If you have one they're nice to call people with if you forgot something, to tell them what your pig got, emergencies, etc.

Things I like to bring

1) a Table

Even a small table is a nice thing to bring. Make sure it's sturdy before hand! If you have many pigs, this item can be necessary because you can put all your pig's cages on it for easy access.

2) Records

I bring my cavy's record books so I can store away comment cards as soon as I get them (though this still hasn't stopped me from misplacing quite a few!). It's also handy to bring pedigrees along in, especially if you have some for sale, you should have their pedigrees ready at your fingertips.

3) a camera

To catch all those great kodak moments - as well as of your pig(s), and friends.

4) a table for grooming

It's nice to have a table of a comfortable height to groom your cavies on.

Things to bring if it's hot.....

1) SHADE

Can be in the form of one of those tent things, sheets or other things like that.

2) Frozen bottles

Freeze human water bottles the night before and bring them in a cooler - I like to cover mine with socks so they don't burn the pigs. If it gets hot, pop one in each of the cages to keep the pigs cool enough. You can also use blue ice, just don't let the pigs eat it.

3) Extra water

For you or to cool down your pigs.

Things to bring if it's cold.....

1) Blanket/towels

To cover your pig's cages

2) a Jacket

For yourself

3) a Starbuck's coffee
