Coronets

Ears matter for overall balance and type of the cavy. Ears by themselves are not awarded any points by ARBA standards, but they affect the overall balance and can still be faulted. Below are photos and descriptions of which ears are good - and which ones aren't.

It seems that the best ears are found on roman-nosed cavies. The 'golf-ball' or very round-shaped heads often have small ears or ears that are carried too high.

Excellent/Good Ears

Here are some nice, large, drooping ears.

OK/Fair Ears

Fair ears - you can see they're not as large or as nicely drooping as the others

Poor Ears

Poor ears - small, stick-up ears

What to look out for

Bitten Ear

Usually caused by being bitten by mother or cagemates when little. Small cage space is usually the cause. Usually a fault.

Small flaps on the outside ear surface. A fault.
