Coronets

              

Colors

Beige- Light brown, all the way to the skin, with beige feet and ears. Trader Joe's paper-bag-brown color. Eyes are pink.

                                                                                      

Black- Color is jet black, all the way to the skin, with black ears and feet. Eyes are dark. This is black.

                                                                                      

Chocolate- The color of bittersweet or Baker's chocolate, not milk chocolate. Ears and feet are Chocolate, too. Eyes are dark with a ruby cast. The cavy will be DQ'd if it has black ears or feet. This is Chocolate.

                                                                                                        

Cream- a delicate cream color carried all the way to the skin, not harsh or lemon-colored. Eyes and ears are to be brown, NOT black or very dark ears. Eyes are pinkish, and can have a ruby cast. This is Cream.

                                                                                       

 

Lilac- A light gray color with a light purple hue, with no hint of brown or orange. Ears and feet should match, eyes are pink.

                                                                                       

Orange- a good, strong orange color

                                                                                                                                                

REO- red eyed orange, a cavy with orange fur and red eyes. Same color fur as an orange cavy.

Red- The red color should be the same color as an Irish Setter, rich, with ears and feet to match. Eyes are dark, and can have a ruby cast. This is Red.

                                                                                      

White- pure white, with no other color

                                                                                       

TS- a guinea pig that has patches of black and red, resembling a checkerboard in pattern

TSW- A guinea pig that has patches of black, red, and white. The patches are supposed to look like a checkerboard.

Cavy Terms

Abby- the abbreviation of Abyssinian

Belly band- on an Agouti cavy; the coat color of the belly where ticking is absent

Blaze- the white blaze on the Dutch cavy's face

Boar- a male cavy or guinea pig

Bonnet strings- when there are streaks of color on an agouti or solid ticked animal that extend under the chin

Brassy- when the color of a cream cavy is too harsh or dark, rather than the light shade that it should be

Crown- the fleshy area on the top of the cavy where the 'neck' is. In a good show cavy, the crown will be rather large.

Coronet- the Coronet is a breed of cavy, the coronet is a rosette on top of the Coronet's head; Coronet with a capital c is a breed, coronet with a lower case c is a rosette.

Crest- the rosette on top of the head of the White Crested guinea pig

DQ'd- abbreviation of disqualified

Faults- failures of a cavy, that although they are not disqualifications, take away points

Frontal- the hair on the Peruvian or Peruvian satin cavy that falls over the face

Intermediate- a cavy that is up to six months of age, or weighing from 22 ounces to 32 ounces

Junior- a cavy that is up to four months of age, and weighs from 12 ounces to 22 ounces

Malocclusion- Where either the bottom or top pair of teeth are overgrown, preventing the cavy from eating.

Roman nose- a good show cavy will have a roman nose. A roman nose will be curved, not flat, dished or looking like a rat's nose.

Rainbows- A broken color cavy that has pink eyes and pastel colored markings (patches of white, orange, beige, lilac, etc.)

Rosettes- the 'whorls' of hair on an Abyssinian or Abyssinian mix.

Squishy- the slang for a senior guinea pig -especially an American- whose sides are no longer firm, but flabby (also called 'potty' or 'pot-bellied')

Typey- a cavy that exhibits good body type
